About the project

MLDL intends to design the renewable energy system for the sales gallery to make it net zero. This will be a first of its kind initiative in this space. The team is also supporting the design and implementation of a renewable energy system for the residential towers to offset the common area energy consumption and reduce the monthly maintenance cost for the future residents. The demand reduction and RE integration strategy is divided into two phases:

Sales Gallery: Sales gallery is expected to be the first entry point for any potential buyer. It will house the MLDL staff till the project sale and construction is completed. It will be converted into a sports arena post construction and hand-over of the project to the housing society. MLDL plans to make it sales office as net zero energy building. This will be first of its kind initiative in built environment sustainability. This will require integration of demand reduction and energy efficiency measures to reduce the overall energy consumption at the site. The remaining energy is planned to be offset by installing a 60 kWp solar energy system at the sales office.

Residential Towers: The towers shall be constructed in two phases Phase 1 involving completion of construction of tower A&B and phase 2 involving construction of Towers C&D. The demand reduction and energy efficiency measures shall be supplemented by RE integration in the towers as well.

Role of BEEP-RE

The team provided assistance regarding the technical evaluation of various renewable energy resources available at the site and maximum possible utilization of these resources through the deployment of identified renewable energy technologies. Post technology finalization, the team assisted in inviting techno-commercial proposals from the technology providers, assessing the proposal, shortlisting vendors, and providing support during and post-installation activities. The team assisted in following to Mahindra:

  • Identification of on-site RE generation capacity
  • Identification of energy demand and energy requirement to be met from off-site RE generation
  • Understanding the provision of Green Power Scheme from BESCOM under which a HT consumer can purchase RE power from BESCOM by paying 0.50 Rs/kWh over its existing tariff
  • Resolving queries from management on obtaining RE power for the Kanakpura Project from BESCOM
  • Reaching out to BESCOM and setting up meeting with the CFO, BESCOM to request for special permission to the project as it would be an LT consumer while the Green Power Scheme is available to only HT consumers
  • Drafting petition letter to represent case of Kanakpura and submission to BESCOM
  • The team also assisted the Mahindra team in reaching out to BESCOM to represent its case. The project is being developed as the first net-zero energy residential building in the country.
