Recording of Webinar on "Renewable Energy Technologies for Building Applications”, on June...
SDC has been supporting the project “Indo-Swiss Building Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP)” which has shown that 30-45% of energy savings are possible by adopting various energy efficiency measures in buildings.
Learn MoreAbout 33 percent of the electricity consumption is utilized in the residential and commercial buildings of India which is continually rising by nearly eight to nine percent annually. Population growth combined with increasing electricity demand and affordability for thermal comforts (mainly by using air conditioners) is expected to exponentially increase the energy consumption in buildings. The projections of NITI Aayog, a premier think-tank of the Government of India, estimates a six to ten times increase in electricity demand in commercial buildings and a four to ten times increase in residential buildings from 2012 to 2047. Renewable energy resources offer a lot of opportunities to complement the efficient designs of high-performance new buildings by supplying clean energy to the already minimized energy demands of traditional systems. The integration of renewable energy systems in buildings allows for the use of local renewable resources, and the reduction of distribution losses while having a specific focus to convert buildings from energy consumers to generators of energy by the integration of different renewable energy technologies. The project team aimed identify optimal RE technology and shared it with the public through publication of tipsheets and guidebooks. Several pilot projects were also identified to showcase the implementation of the RE selected for the projects based on their context, occupancy and use.
Learn MoreThe team has identified suitable renewable energy technologies and showcased the ways they can be implemented in pilot projects as per the local context.
Learn MoreThe webinar series for “Integration of Renewable Energy Technologies in Buildings in India” was organized to disseminate knowledge regarding the shortlisted renewable energy technologies identified in the BEEP—RE project. BEEP-RE with the support of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), in collaboration with U-Solar Clean Energy, organized a six RE-Tech talk series online webinar on project titled ‘Integration of Renewable Energy in Buildings in India.’ The talk series which lasted for almost four months, began on February 17th, 2023, and lasted until May 12th, 2023, and featured one talk every two weeks. The key outcomes of the webinar series are listed below: • The participants were introduced to shortlisted Renewable Energy (RE) technologies by expert speakers with case studies and technical specifications. Knowledge products like tipsheets were also shared with the attendees. • The one-and-a-half-hour webinar created an online platform for attendees to interact with industry experts regarding the identified technologies. • Awareness was generated about the different RE technologies and their installation by various organizations. • The recordings of the webinars were shared on IIEC’s official YouTube channel as an open source. (link: https://shorturl.at/rtJ47 ). • The webinar with 180 participants informed attendees regarding the RE deployment process covered the site assessment, simulations and potential calculations, shortlisting of technologies, preparation of Request for Proposals (RFP) for tenders and project financing. The profile of speakers was a mix of CEO, technical consultants, project managers and business managers of RE technology sector.
